Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (QCF)

This is the latest and most up to date “in service” teaching qualification. It replaced DTLLS on 1st October 2013.

Purpose

The purpose of this Level 5 Diploma In Education and Training (QCF) is to provide the learner with the skills, knowledge and understanding in developing practical teaching skills, and through the seven units below, prepares teachers to work in a wide range of placements.

  1. Teaching, learning and assessment in education and training
  2. Developing teaching, learning and assessment in education and training
  3. Theories, principles and models in education and training
  4. Wider professional practice and development in education and training
  5. Developing, using and organising resources in a specialist area
  6. Effective partnership working in the learning and teaching context
  7. Inclusive practice

All the units are fully online learning based and you have a 3-year window to complete the qualification but it can be done in 6 to 9 months if you’re are able to commit to around 6 to 8 hours of self-study per week.

Once you have completed the level 5 Diploma in Education & Training you can then apply to gain QTLS status.  QTLS stands for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills

QTLS status is a voluntary process which demonstrates your commitment to being a professional teacher in England.

It is gained through being a member of the professional association the Society for Education and Training (SET) which is part of the Education and Training Foundation (ETF).

Gaining QTLS status gives parity with school teachers' who are QTS status, enabling you to teach in a school or an academy should you wish.

To gain QTLS status, you will need to provide evidence of your literacy and numeracy skills (part of the minimum core) to at least level two.

If you already hold a numeracy/maths and literacy/English qualification such as Key Skills or GCSE grade A-C these should be acceptable or a coaching qualification at Level 2 QCF.
